Department of the Philosophy
Maharana Pratap College offers a four-year undergraduate course in philosophy. The Department of Philosophy comprises a committed faculty with specialization in diverse areas such as Indian Philosophy, Greek Philosophy, Continental Thought, Logic, Ethics, Aesthetics, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science, and Philosophy of Religion. More than seventy-five years old, the department has grown from strength to strength. Knowledge of any aspect of life remains incomplete without philosophical reflections. Hence, philosophy is not only an inevitable accomplishment of a self-conscious society that orients the learner on how to arrive at the right decision by analysing the facts, entering into deep insight, and choosing the appropriate one with justification by rejecting the wrong one; rather, it is an essential aspect of human development in the form of value orientation. It is the study of the most fundamental issues concerning reality, knowledge, and value, along with the basic, deep-rooted concepts, principles, and arguments of the major intellectual disciplines. When science provides us with knowledge, only philosophy paves the way towards wisdom. The undergraduate course in philosophy trains students to develop a philosophical orientation by practicing their analytic ability, intellectual insight, and principles to bridge the gap between theory and practice in all domains of life. They get trained to face the public domain with fairness and justice in everyday life.
The teachers guide their students towards developing their talent in various fields by involving them in debates, seminars and discussions in class. Students are encouraged to maintain Departmental Wall-Magazine and participate in extension activities like NSS, drill and march past, recitation, singing, dancing etc. and similar other activities.
Vision
The vision of department of philosophy is to enrich the knowledge of the students of philosophy with special emphasis on spiritual, moral, and ethical values and to create a calm, peaceful, and noble atmosphere among the students so that they can enable themselves to be good moral citizens in the future.
