Profile of the Department


The department is serving different other streams also according to the university guidelines and syllabus. Many of our students are working at higher levels in various spheres of life. Our first priority for the students is to them for studying Hindi as a subject and language. We try to promote Hindi beyond mere poetry and prose. We have recently focused career-oriented courses. The department also involves students in extra-curricular activities like literary trip, outreach program, NSS, NCC etc. The Academic result of the department is remarkable every year. The department is getting more and more progressive day by day.

The idea is to evolve an awareness of cultural constructs and ideologies which shape the writing and reading of texts, and also to develop a sensitive and nuanced understanding of critical issues affecting the individual and society. The Department has extended the mentoring beyond the classroom and texts through various multidisciplinary projects and activities like talks, outreach programmes, paper writing, national seminars, film screenings and theatre. It encourages the quest for knowledge through research-based approach and self-learning in addition to building a student’s ability to analyse, assimilate and express in both oral and written modes.

Profile of the Department


Bachelor of Arts (BA) Sanskrit (Hons.) is a four-year regular graduate programme in Sanskrit language that one can pursue after completing 10+2 or equivalent level education. It is an Under Graduate (UG) program that is offered by various colleges and universities across the country. Most of the colleges and universities offer admission to this course based on merit.
The merit determining criteria for the course is class 12 th  board percentage or equivalent educational qualification obtained by the candidate. Sanskrit is the most interesting and scientific language in the world. Sanskrit studies help in revitalizing India’s morality. It helps students to make scientific insights and research related to positive science in our ancient literature. The Rigveda is the lifeblood of Indian culture and tradition of Sanskrit literature. Indian culture and traditions are only in Sanskrit language. It is a repository of all kinds of knowledge, which is very useful in maintaining a healthy and stress-free life in the society. The culture of Sanskrit is a culture of synthesis and assimilation. The study of Sanskrit language and the study of Sanskrit literature are both balanced and effectively maintained. The department also provides instruction in Vedas, Upanishads and related scriptures. Brilliant teacher over the years have inspired our young generation to maintain the spirit of study.

Aims of the Undergraduate Programme in Sanskrit
The Objectives of the Undergraduate Programme in Sanskrit are:

The Department of Urdu, Maharana Pratap College, was established in the year 1979, is considered as one of the most illustrious and prominent premises for Urdu language and Literary studies in Bhabhua. The Department offers undergraduate programme in Urdulanguage and literature, leading to the award of B.A (Urdu) degree from the Veer Kunwar Singh University. The Department of Urdu also offers foundation courses in Urdu, Allied Urdu, On Major Electives (NME) for I and II year students of all discipline. The department has a well-furnished and Modernised Urdu lab for the training the students to excel in Desk Top Publishing (DTP), Designing Applications, Account and Tally. The Department of Urdu has a well-organised and methodical Library for the reference and benefit of the students, containing a large collection of books pertaining to Prose, Poetry, Journalism, Criticism, History of Urdu language and Literature and Life History and achievements of great poets and prose writers.

The Economics Department of Maharana Pratap College takes pride in being among the best departments for the study of Economics at the undergraduate level. It comprises a young and dynamic faculty with diverse specializations and interests.
The teaching methodology at Maharana Pratap College combines standard methods– lectures and tutorials – with written assignments, project work, field trips, and student presentations both in class and in seminars. The faculty endeavours to preserve the vibrant academic atmosphere in order to provide high quality Economics education from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

From time-to-time department of commerce has also conducted various Conferences, Faculty Development Programs (FDP), Workshops and Seminars to motivate the students and teachers and help in their career development. To build up administrative and managerial skills, students are motivated and given responsibilities of organizing various events. The much awaited annual inter college commerce festival Bizz Blaze gives a platform to students to show their talent and creativity. Upon graduation, many students find placements in many companies.

The department works with the vision to shape historically and politically conscious citizens for the country who would pursue intellectual/academic excellence and scientific temperament with the view to create a more just and equal society. The department usages of maps, photographs, films and so on to illustrate historical changes and impart education that makes students more tolerant of social, economic and political differences. The students become historically conscious citizens aware of their environment and heritage.
The University designs both Programme and Honours courses for the students. While conveying the same to students through lectures, presentations etc. Care is taken to incorporate elements of living history. To that end heritage walks are conducted, talks are held, discussions and debates are done and relevant movies, visual material, maps etc are used to explain the historical process.
The Department is trying to inculcate a world vision, philosophical disposition, social and ethical responsibility among the students. Study of history helps enhance analytical and interpretative ability. They also learn to synthesize and collate information. It is meant to make them historical and heritage-conscious citizens. It eventually develops their oration and discursive ability, reading and writing ability.

B.A. Political Science, or Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, is a 4-year undergraduate programme. The course involves the study of both national and international political systems. During the course, students are taught historical and modern political systems, public administration, governmental policies and procedures, international relations, and public affairs. The Department of Political Science encourages students to explore the connections between the major and other disciplines by cross-listing courses across departments and by encouraging students to ask questions that are not constrained by disciplinary boundaries. The basic eligibility is 10+2 or any other equivalent examination. The student must pass the 12th board examinations with at least 50% marks.

Profile of the Department


The Department of Psychology emphasizes training in theoretical and applied psychological skills with the purpose of creating students who are high on intra-psychic and inter-personal sensitivity. The various realms of life – cognition, emotion, behaviour and spirituality – are explored with ample amount of space given to both objectivity and subjectivity of human nature. The course is designed to enhance not only knowledge of concepts but also introduce skills required for research and profession as psychologists. Empathetic understanding of the socio-cultural and cross-cultural aspects of community living fine-tune students to become responsible individuals and citizens in a highly globalized environment.
As part of the syllabi related practicum/projects and additional extended outreach programs including interventions, students are exposed to a variety of areas that not only sensitize them to mental health concerns but also sensitize the communities they work with, specifically in domains related to women and maternal health ranging from menarche to menopause, education from childhood to adolescence, life span development from neonatal to geriatrics, and global concerns like environment, migration, religion.

They will grow as a citizen who will understand the reasons for the differentials in group opportunities and outcomes. Sociology will also teach them the relevance of social hierarchies and social power in everyday life. Keeping in view the dynamic nature of society, Sociology as a discipline has immense importance to develop competencies and skills required for keeping oneself professionally engaged and personally well informed to participate in the social learning process to update knowledge and practice.
The main purpose of the Undergraduate Programme in Sociology is to develop and disseminate knowledge, skills and values through teaching, field-based training, internship and research projects in order to promote, maintain and improve the functioning of
individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities existing in the society.

The department of Zoology was introduced in Maharana Pratap College with a vision to enhance the science education in the area. The department is a constituent entity of the faculty of science. From the beginning it has been the foremost department of learning in all aspects of animal sciences ranging from animal physiology, genetics, evolutionary biology and reproductive biology with modern equipped and sophisticated instrumentation. Also, with many applied branches and skill development areas such as apiculture that plays an important role in economic development of the area. Besides teaching effort given to students to obtain B.Sc. degree, co-circular and extra-curricular activities are conducted by the department from time to time such as zoological trips, study tours to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. These tours train the students to gain practical experience and on spot understanding the behaviour of different wild animals which pave way for the motivation to pursue higher studies. The department is run by qualified and competitive faculty which is headed by Dr. Mritunjay Singh. The department has about 150 students in all the semesters.

B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education)
The Bachelor of Education program, generally known as B.Ed., is a professional course that prepares teachers for upper primary or middle level (classes VI–VIII), secondary level (classes IX–X), and senior secondary level (classes XI–XII).
The B.Ed. Division runs the B.Ed. program for those who aspire to become school teachers and those who are already working as assistant teachers in the various schools. The B.Ed. degree course offered by the B.Ed. Division is approved by the National Council of Teacher
Education (NCTE) and affiliated with Veer Kunwaar Singh University, Ara. It is a two-year regular (full-time) programme.
The B.Ed. Program is a set of various theory courses and practical work that are linked together meaningfully, aiming at achieving excellence and competence in pedagogic practices and enabling the teacher-trainees to become efficient and effective school teachers and
organize the school internship.

Eligibility for the B.Ed. Program:
Candidates with at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Science / Social Sciences/ Humanities, Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55 % (fifty-five percent) marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto, are eligible for admission to the B.Ed. program.

M.Ed. (Master of Education)
